Marco Polo S.S. 9R Period 2 May 6, 1996 Marco Polo Marco Polo Is One O
Marco Polo S.S. 9R Period 2 May 6, 1996 Marco Polo Marco Polo is one of the most well-known heroic travelers and traders around the world. In my paper I will discuss with you Marco Polo's life, his travels, and his visit to China to see the great Khan. Marco Polo was born in c.1254 in Venice. He was a Venetian explorer and merchant whose account of his travels in Asia was the primary source for the European image of the Far East until the late 19th century. Marco's father, Niccol?, and his uncle Maffeo had traveled to China (1260-69) as merchants. When they left (1271) Venice to return to China, they were accompanied by 17-year-old Marco and two priests. Early Life Despite his enduring fame, very little was known about the personal life of Marco Polo. It is known that he was born into a leading Venetian family of merchants. He also lived during a propitious time in world history, when the height of Venice's influence as a city-state coincided with the greatest extent of Mongol conque st of Asia(Li Man Kin 9). Ruled by Kublai Khan, the Mongol Empire stretched all the way from China to Russia and the Levant. The Mongol hordes also threatened other parts of Europe, particularly Poland and Hungary, inspiring fear everywhere by their bloodthirsty advances. Yet the ruthless methods brought a measure of stability to the lands they controlled, opening up trade routes such as the famous Silk Road. Eventually ,the Mongols discovered that it was more profitable to collect tribute from people than to kill them outright, and this policy too stimulated trade(Hull 23). Into this favorable atmosphere a number of European traders ventured, including the family of Marco Polo. The Polos had long-established ties in the Levant and around the Black Sea: for example, they owned property in Constantinople, and Marco's uncle, for whom he was named, had a home in Sudak in the Crimea(Rugoff 8). From Sudak, around 1260, another uncle, Maffeo, and Marco's father, Niccol?, made a trading vi sit into Mongol territory, the land of the Golden Horde(Russia), ruled by Berke Khan. While they were there, a war broke out between Berke and the Cowan of Levant , blocking their return home. Thus Niccol? and Maffeo traveled deeper into mongol territory, moving southeast to Bukhara, which was ruled by a third Cowan. While waiting there, they met an emissary traveling farther eastward who invited them to accompany him to the court of the great Cowan, Kublai, in Cathay(modern China). In Cathay, Kublai Khan gave the Polos a friendly reception, appointed them his emissaries to the pope, and ensured their safe travel back to Europe(Steffof 10). They were to return to Cathay with one hundred learned men who could instruct the Mongols in the Christian religion and the liberal arts. In 1269, Niccol? and Maffeo Polo arrived back in Venice, where Niccol? found out his wife had died while he was gone(Rugoff 5). Their son, Marco, who was only about fifteen years old, had been only six or young er when his father left home:thus; Marco was reared primarily by his mother and the extended Polo family-and the streets of Venice. After his mother's death, Marco had probably begun to think of himself as something of a orphan(Rugoff 6). Then his father and uncle suddenly reappeared, as if from the dead, after nine years of traveling in far-off, romantic lands. These experiences were the formative influences on young Marco, and one can see their effects mirrored in his character: a combination of sensitivity and toughness, independence and loyalty, motivated by an eagerness for adventure, a love of stories, and a desire to please or impress(Li Man Kin 10). Life's Work In 1268, Pope Clement IV died, and a two- or three-year delay while another pope was being elected gave young Marco time to mature and to absorb the tales of his father and uncle. Marco was seventeen years old when he, his father and uncle finally set out for the court of Kublai Khan(Stefoff 13). They were accompanied not by one hundred wise men but by two Dominican friars, and the two good friars turned back at the first sign of adversity, another

There are several types of spam that affectà Google Analytics but by far and away the most popular is referral spam, sometimes referred to as ghost spam, as often it never actually reaches the affected website. Apart from the contamination of statistics, luckily this spam technique never actually harms the affected sites. Referral spam is the process that spammers use where they utilize web spiders or bots to send one or more fake hits to a Google Analytics account (a hit can take the form of anything from a page view to a transaction). The spammers will target thousands of websites per day, presumably at random, so donââ¬â¢t be lead to believe that you or your agency has committed an SEO crime which has plagued you with this problem! In some cases, advanced spammers can make bots read your Google Analytics script that is embedded on your web page. They will then extract your unique Property ID, add it to their database and continually spam your site, making it look like they have sent huge amounts of referral traffic to your site and putting them top of your referral list in Google Analytics. Sneaky. "Okay, I get it so far, but why would anyone bother to create Google Analytics spam?" I hear you ask. Well, apart from the pure fun of it, there are a number of reasons people are doing this: Generate traffic of their own. Arguably the main reason for referral/ghost spam. Not only are spammers inflating and blemishing your traffic stats, they are also increasing their own through peopleââ¬â¢s natural curiosity to click their links and itââ¬â¢s reported that they are in fact increasing salesà with this tactic. Whether they redirect the link to a site where they are selling physical products or services or simply taking you to sites covered in ads, the additional traffic is profitable Get commission.à Affiliates often get commission through increasing traffic statistics and this is an easy way for corrupt sites to do so Propaganda. Believe it or not, some users are even creating referral spam to spread their own personal political beliefs and propaganda. The most notorious case being the pro-Trump spam spread by Russian spammer Vitaly Popov. 4. Black Hat SEOs. There have been rumors in some cases where SEOââ¬â¢s or marketing agencies have used referral spam as a way of bloating their own client's traffic statistics to give a false impression of success. 5. Harvesting emails. The spammers will then sell the email addresses to 3rd parties who can use them for bulk email campaigns. 6. Spreading malware. Thereââ¬â¢s nothing spammers like more than causing havoc for the sake of it. Could spammers be trying to spread malware in your #Google #Analytics account? Find out (and fight...Now weââ¬â¢ve established what exactly Analytics spam is, why anyone bothers to create it, and how harmful it can be for your Google Analytics account and business, letââ¬â¢s talk about how we can prevent it. Recommended Reading: Using Google Analytics to Write Smarter Content Know the Different Types of Google Analytics Spam Out There ( How to Prevent Them) Google Analytics spam comes in different shapes and forms. Here are some common varieties to be aware of. Referral Spam Referral Spam is the main method here and one weââ¬â¢ve touched on already. It started a few years ago with the main culprits being sites such as "semalt" and "buttons-for-websites" and now itââ¬â¢s rare to see an analytics account that doesnââ¬â¢t have "abc.xyz", "free-traffic.xyz" or "ilovevitaly.com" as a referrer. How can you stop it? One of the first suggestions that surfaced on forums, social media and SEO news sites was blocking the related URLââ¬â¢s through your .htaccess fileà in the root directory of your domain. How to Block Spam Bots in .htacess This method involves copy and pasting a bunch of code into your site and can be dangerous when done incorrectly as the .htaccess file is extremely important and defines how your server behaves. Entering the code incorrectly can take down the whole site so exercise this technique with extreme caution. If you do feel skilled enough at having a go at this method then check out this handy guide on blocking spam bots in .htaccess. Although in a lot of cases this works, as mentioned previously, most of the bots now do not even visit the website rendering blocking their URL in your .htaccess useless. Itââ¬â¢s also extremely time-consuming to block all the URLââ¬â¢s, especially as there are new ones seemingly popping up every day. There must be a better solutionâ⬠¦ Recommended Reading: How to Boost Traffic With 34 SEO Tips You Need to Know (+ Free Kit) Filtering Spam Bots with Custom Filters in Google Analytics Utilizing Custom Filters was the most effective workaround to the Google Analytics referral spam problem for a long while and itââ¬â¢s still a handy solution to know. Itââ¬â¢s a much easier method to implement than blocking spam domains through .htaccess and you donââ¬â¢t need any coding skill. The only potential hazard here is filtering the wrong set of data and further polluting your data by entering the correct filter string. Follow the guide below and you wonââ¬â¢t have any problems: Step 1: Head over to your Google Analytics profile and click Acquisition All Traffic Referrals: Step 2: Sort Referral Traffic by Bounce Rate: And make sure that youââ¬â¢ve set the timeframe to at least a couple of months: A zero or 100% bounce rate, with at least 20 sessions is a strong indicator that the referrer domain is spammy. If youââ¬â¢re unsure the domain youââ¬â¢re looking at is, in fact, spammy and you want to make sure youââ¬â¢re not excluding legitimate traffic sources, then you can check them against our trusted Ultimate Referral Listà (a 128 domain strong list of referral spammers). Step 3: What to do if you can't find the domain? If you canââ¬â¢t find the domain in our list or other user-generated ââ¬ËReferral Spam Domain Listsââ¬â¢ that you can find online, such as ... https://github.com/piwik/referrer-spam-blacklist https://referrerspamblocker.com/blacklist https://perishablepress.com/4g-ultimate-referrer-blacklist/ ... then consider search the siteââ¬â¢s domain on Google or social media to see what others are saying about it. Remember to err on the side of caution and not visit the potentially spammy sites as we already know they can be malicious and full of viruses. Step 4: Now that you have collated your final list of spammy referring domains we can then block them using ââ¬ËCustom Filtersââ¬â¢. Head over to your Google Analytics profile and hit the ââ¬ËAdminââ¬â¢ tab. Then under the Viewà column, you will want to click the Filters button: Once youââ¬â¢ve navigated to the ââ¬ËFiltersââ¬â¢ page click the big red Add Filter button: Step 5: Once youââ¬â¢re on the Edit Filter page you can enter the name that youââ¬â¢d like to call the filter. In the example below I have simply labeled them ââ¬ËSpam Referrersââ¬â¢ but you may wish to make this more descriptive or specific, especially if you have a lot of spam sites that you are wishing to filter out. Select the Custom Filter Type and check the Exclude option from the options below. Under Filter Field, you will want to select ââ¬ËCampaign Sourceââ¬â¢. Next, youââ¬â¢ll want to add in the Filter Pattern as you see it in the example below. ââ¬Ëexample.com|example2.com|example3.comââ¬â¢Ã etc. The pipe symbol ââ¬Ë|ââ¬â¢ is used as an "or" operator meaning that the filter ââ¬Ëexample.comââ¬â¢ orà example2.com orà example3.com will be excluded. However, Don't end the filter pattern with a pipe, as Google themselves warn that this ââ¬Å"will exclude ALL referral sourcesâ⬠. Remember that you can only add in around ten or so spam referring domains as there is a 255 character limit for each filter. To get around this simply add in more filters until youââ¬â¢ve blocked all of the desired domains. Need to filter out spam bots in #Google #Analytics? Here's how:Referral Exclusion List The final method of blocking spam referral domains in Google Analytics that weââ¬â¢re going to look at is called the ââ¬ËReferral Exclusion Listââ¬â¢ method and is the first solution that Google themselves have created for excluding rogue domains. The first thing that needs mentioning about this method is that it only works if youââ¬â¢re using the newer Universal Analytics rather than Classic Google Analytics. When Google released this new feature within Universal Analytics they highlighted two common uses for it: Third Party Referrals.à Especially payment processors. After you have added a payment processor into your Referral Exclusion List, when a user leaves your site to the payment processor then returns to your site following a purchase, the processor wonââ¬â¢t show as the referring domain. A great example of this is if you use PayPal and you constantly see that as a referring source. Add PayPal as a referral exclusion and this will no longer skew the data. Self-Referrals. If you have several subdomains that a user may jump back and forth from you can add your own site into the exclusion list to prevent artificially inflating traffic data. Your site is automatically added to this when you set up your Analytics property so needs no implementation. However,à Google make no mentionà of using this technique to block spam and some will argue that there is a reason behind this! Google states: ââ¬Å"When you exclude a referral source, traffic that arrives to your site from the excluded domain doesnââ¬â¢t trigger a new session.â⬠But, this doesnââ¬â¢t mean that the visit has been completely removed from your Analytics data. In some cases, it has been reportedà that Google Analytics merely attributes the source of the visit differently, from a referral to ââ¬Ëdirectââ¬â¢ traffic. It has removed the referral spam attribution but the data can still be ruined. Again, exercise with caution! Recommended Reading: The Best Advice on How to Grow Your Blog Traffic By 1,044% In 1 Year With all that in mind, hereââ¬â¢s how to access the Referral Exclusion List and block single domains: Step 1: Head over to the Admin tab in your Google Analytics account then click Tracking Info within the Property column: Step 2: Under the ââ¬ËTracking Infoââ¬â¢ dropdown select ââ¬ËReferral Exclusion Listââ¬â¢ ...then click the ââ¬Ë+ ADD REFERRAL EXCLUSIONââ¬â¢ button. Step 3: Simply add in the domains that you wish to exclude from your referral traffic. One downside to this technique is that you canââ¬â¢t add domains in bulk which is another reason that the filter method (mentioned previously) may be more efficient. Language Spam The Future of Spam Just when we thought we had it all figured, along came a brand new brand of spam ready to pollute our beautiful Analytics data once more! Towards the back end of 2016, a new wave of Analytics spam hit many accounts, Language Spam. Ever notice sentences similar to this in your Language Report on Analytics? How about these: o-o-8-o-o.com search shell is much better than google! Vitaly rules google âËâ *:ï ½ ¡Ã£âÅ"ï ¾Å¸Ã¯ ½ ¥*ãÆ' ½(^á ´â"^)ï ¾â°*ï ½ ¥Ã£âÅ"ï ¾Å¸Ã¯ ½ ¡:*âËâ à ¯_(ãÆ'â)_/à ¯(à ² çâºÅ à ² )(à ² ¥Ã¢â¬ ¿Ã ² ¥)(ÃËâ⬠¿ÃË)áÆ'Å¡(à ² _à ² áÆ'Å¡)( à ¡Ã ° ÃÅ"Ãâ" à ¡Ã °)ãÆ' ½(ï ¾Å¸Ãâï ¾Å¸)ï ¾â°Ãâ¢Ã «Ã ¡Ãâá ¶Ë á µâá ´ ¥Ã¡ µâá ¶â¦(=^ ^=)oO The Language Spam problem was combined with yet more referral spam and often saw sites such asà brateg.xyz, begalka.xyz, bukleteg.xyz etc. in your data. Eventually, the referral spam was managing to use legitimate websites such as reddit.com, twitter.comà à thenextweb.com to disguise itself. According to reports, research has shown that this is not too dissimilar to the standard referral spam we saw previously in how it works which means that itââ¬â¢s easy enough to block. Once the Language Spam has been recorded there is no way to permanently remove it from your historical data but you can filter it to report accurate historical statistics. You can also utilize the same methods to block Language Spam as you can with Referral Spam as we explain in detail further up the page. Has your site been hit by Language Spam? Here's what to do about it.Hereââ¬â¢s how you can utilize Custom Segments to view accurate historical data even after youââ¬â¢ve been inflicted with Language Spam: Step 1: On report view in your Google Analytics account click ââ¬Ë+ Add Segmentââ¬â¢ at the top of the page ... ... then click the big, red ââ¬Ë+New Segmentââ¬â¢ button. Step 2: Staying on the ââ¬ËDemographicsââ¬â¢ tab that you default to, give your new Segment a simple, easy to identify name: Step 3: Next up, you want to select ââ¬Ëdoes not match regexââ¬â¢ from the drop down tab next to ââ¬ËLanguageââ¬â¢ and enter the following expression and then hit save: .{15,}|s[^s]*s|.|,|!|/ The filter above excludes any traffic where the language name contains 15+ characters as most, .com,.co.uk, .fr for example, donââ¬â¢t go over that limit yet the Language Spam names often do. It also excludes symbols which are invalid for use in the language field, such as commas, exclamations marks and speech marks, that are used to construct these spammy domain names. Once saved, you can now look back at data in your Google Analytics account over any period of time and analyze non-infiltrated stats. Lovely! Google Analytics spam is not a new thing and has been frustrating website owners and marketers alike for quite a while now. Whilst, with these techniques, you can block most of the spam coming through, there will no doubt be something else affecting your account somewhere along the line. Keep an eye out for any suspicious looking websites and the methods in this article may just be able to still help you.

Foucaults Contribution to the Study of Punishment Essay
Foucaults Contribution to the Study of Punishment - Essay Example The briefest thing to be said about Discipline and Punish is that it is about how certain people who were subjects of a sovereign became subjects of a new kind. The people in question were lawbreakers, malefactors, criminals--those who were apprehended and punished for contravening the laws of the sovereign. They became and continue to be individuals who, having contravened the laws of societies having modern legal structures, undergo complex processing in institutionalized judicial and penal systems that center on the incarceration of offenders. Discipline and Punish are ostensibly about the change from lawful punishment as brutal monarchical vengeance to lawful punishment as humanized deterrence and rehabilitation. What the book is really about is the production of subjects through the imposition of disciplines; it is about how the process of constant observation, assessment, and control of inmates in the modern penitentiary manufactures new subjects through the employment of manag ement techniques that intrude into and govern every aspect of life. But what makes Discipline and Punish more than a study of penalty is its portrayal of techniques employed in the manufacture of these new subjects as those more widely used in the production of the contemporary norm-governed social individual. (Richard Marsden, 1999). Foucault's point of departure in rethinking a subject-matter is to impugn the commonplace, to query accepted knowledge. In applying genealogy to a penalty, Foucault impugns the commonplace view that our present penitentiary-centered penal system is the result of the progressive humanization of earlier, more ruthless methods of retributive punishment. Foucault begins by discussing how spectacular public punishments and executions constituted a standard procedure for dealing with lawbreakers in the European monarchical order to roughly the mid-eighteenth century.

Performance and Guanxi Effect on Job Security to Reduce Turnover Intention in Saudi Arabia - Research Proposal Example This essay stresses that information collector predisposition can be minimized by having one analyst distributing the questionnaires and through institutionalizing conditions like guaranteeing unprejudiced individual characteristics to all respondents such as kind disposition and protection. The psychological and physical surroundings where information will be gathered ought to be made private, ensure privacy and general physical solace. Subjects will be asked not to reveal their names or any ID on the polls to ensure secrecy. Extra data for utilization in the exploration will be acquired from semi-organized interviews of the selected population of workers and administrators from the chosen firms in the chosen commercial ventures. This paper makes a conclusion that to attain the legitimacy of the data collected, the inquiries pollswill be inferred from data accumulated in the writing audit to guarantee they are right illustrative of what private associations thought about with respect to representative turnover. The quantity of respondents who declined to take part after being approached will be accounted for to empower a judgment of dangers to outside legitimacy. When conducting research in a certain society, ethical consideration is very important because the research has to assure the respondents privacy and trust. Saudi Arabian people to a high degree respect their cultural heritages, with the largest population being Muslims and the state has a monarchical government.

Persuasive Writing on topic of Animal Rights Essay Example for Free
Persuasive Writing on topic of Animal Rights Essay Deceased: Monday, November 5th, 2001. Great Britains Prison Service has reported that animal rights terrorist Barry Horne, 49, died in a Worcester hospital on November 5 after a short-lived hunger strike. The official cause of death was liver failure. In 1997, Barry Horne was sentenced to 18 years in prison for carrying out vicious attacks and arson on legitimate facilities that he claimed promoted animal cruelty. His attacks put human beings in danger for animals, animals without sentience, the ability to realize that they are alive. Animals without the ability to distinguish thought. This essay will focus on animals we consume for our nutrition. Animals without the basic goal of human beings of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The human race cannot give these rights to living organisms without the goal of the unalienable right and without the basic comprehension of consciousness. Animals are ignorant of the basic sentience and self-awareness, everything is an animal and we are not exempt, and reasoning that we should solely eat plant proteins because we have the intelligence to, and the wolf doesnt, so therefore we should make the wolf our equal is self-contradictory. The human race has come up with criteria for judging the sentience of a organism. There are five basic building block of society, which are the criteria for judging the sentience of an animal. The starting point for any species is if they were observed as producing or having produced technological artifacts unique to that species. Next, if they were observed as able to communicate from one generation to the next by a recorded language unique to that species, that is a significant leap. An important pair is being observed as basing action on abstract reasoning and being observed as engaging in inductive and deductive reasoning processes, and finally, observed as engaging in non-utilitarian artistic activity unique to that species. No other species besides man has five basic building blocks of society. Animals eat, eat, reproduce, and die. We, as human beings, are predators. We eat other animals. We need to eat. Zoomorphism only happens when we arent worried about eating. If we were not sentient we would still eat animals. By the survival of the fittest, which is the law of raw nature, no animal has rights; only the tools to survive asà best it can. The chicken has no right not to be eaten by the fox. The gazelle has no ethical recourse against the lion. If we are merely animals, no other animal has any ethical standing to complain against the human animal for eating them or wearing their skins. The basic rational or credo for animal rights consists of changing our diet to exclusively vegetable proteins, based on the notion that human beings have the intelligence to choose to eat soy beans in preference to cattle but wolves cant and this superior human reasoning ability is a reason to consider animals such as wolves as our equals. Look at the last sentence of the animal rights credo, This superior human reasoning ability is a reason to consider animals such as wolves our equals, and therefore realize that that argument admits we are superior, so we should be equal. This argument is similar with 2=0. The rational itself is contradictory. Animal rights failed on three other arguments as well. First, human beings are the dominant species on this planet, making decisions regarding use of the land, the sea, the air, and the near space above the air. Man rules and animals have to take what we do with them and lump it. The penultimate argument is there are no animals petitioning mankind, their oppressor, for an elevated status or recognition of their rights. Third, there are no animals contesting their status as inferiors to mankind. Animals arent protesting for their rights, it is human beings. Animals are not asking for their rights. How do we know to give them rights? If they are sentient, how do we know that they want rights? It is human beings who are asking for rights for animals, but their rational is insufficient. So lets be prepared for animal rights activists, because after the death of Barry Horne, there are some people who may regard him as a martyr. That includes people who may want to carry out actions against on legitimate scientist working with animals to promote human beings needs. No animal rights activists are themselves animals. There is no organization called Porpoises for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. It is people who make those demands of other people. Essentially brainless work animals should not be considered on the same level as sentient human beings. Animal Rights is the philosophy of allowing non-human animals to have the most basic rights thatà all sentient beings desire: the freedom to be exempt from this web of dog eat dog, the food chain, the survival of the fittest.

A Healing Touch? Essay -- Child Psychology Psychological Papers
A Healing Touch? Several weeks ago in our biology, Professor Grobstein mentioned that his college seminar class was holding a bake sale in our campus center. He approached his sales pitch by asking if we were stressed from the workload of the end of the semester. Inevitably we all nodded our heads in agreement that the homework had begun to take its toll. He urged us all to support his class's efforts and their somewhat atypical offer including an optional hug with the purchase of a brownie. After class I found myself thinking about his association with stress and the need for a hug. I know from personal experience that a hug or even a pat on the back can cheer me up. I've also read that people who make appropriate physical contact in business transactions-a firm handshake or a hand on the shoulder-are more likely to land the deal than those who keep to themselves. However, the necessity of physical interaction goes beyond the role of a mere stress reliever or business etiquette; rather it is essential to the development of an infant-both socially and physically. Among the most well known experiments on the subject were those of Harry Harlow in the 1950s and 1960s. Through his series of tests with infant monkeys and their application to humans, he brought a new understanding of child psychology and our own behavior (7). Until his experiments, most scientists assumed that the affection infants displayed for their mothers was an association between the mother and the quenching of primary needs-hunger, thirst, and pain (11). The primary focus of experiment 4 was to teach a student the basic solubility rules of salts in aqueous solutions. After developing and using a scheme for the qualitative analysis of three cations in an aqueous mixture, a student would use a centrifuge to identify, precipitate, and separate the three ions in the mixture. After becoming familiar with all three cations, the student would use the scheme again to identify at least two of the cations in an unknown solution. In order to begin the separation process, HCl is added to the mixture of cations to form the precipitates and separate the chlorides of Ag+, Pb2+, and HG22+. It is important not to add too much HCl because an excess would form the soluble complexes of AgCl and PbCl2. After the HCl is added, it is centrifuged to form a solid precipitate that contains all three cations and separate them from the supernatant liquid. Finally, another drop of HCl is added to test for completeness of precipitation and centrifuged again if the solution remains incomplete. To separate the lead (II) ion from the sample of solution, it must be separated from the insoluble Hg2Cl2 and AgCL salts by dissolving it in hot water. Once it has been dissolved from the other two cations, it is centrifuged and the liquid is decanted into another test tube. Once in the other test tube, a drop of 6.0 M acetic acid and two drops of 1.0 M K2CrO4 is added to the saved liquid. If the lead (II) cation is present, a yellow precipitate forms and ensures the presence of that cation. When testing my unknown solution, the lead (II) ion was not present in my solution. To further separate the cations, 1.0 mL of 6 M NH3 is added to the saved precipitate. After adding the ammonia, the mixture is centrifuged and the liquid is once again decanted into another test tube. If a gray or black precipitate forms, this proves the presence of Hg22+. The mercury (I) ion was present in my unknown. Finally, separating the silver ions from the sample solution mixture is accomplished in the prior step when the mercury ion is centrifuged. In order to test for the presence of silver ions, 1 mL of 6M HNO3 is added to the solution from the prior step. The silver precipitates in this acidic solution. If a white precipitate appears, silver is present in the solution. The presence of a white precipitate in the solution proves that there were silver ions in my unknown. By following the scheme for the qualitative analysis, it was simple to separate and test for the presence of the target cations. It was critical to correctly label every one of the liquids to ensure the correct reactions. No other difficulties prevented success in the experiment, but performing the experiment several times would further reinforce the outcome of the experiment.
